Questions people ask
What does a penetration test include?
A penetration test starts with scoping: agreeing which websites, applications, APIs or cloud systems are in scope and when testing can run. We then combine automated scanning with manual testing on the critical paths, actively trying to exploit weaknesses the way a real attacker would. You receive an executive summary in plain English and a technical remediation checklist, and follow-up testing can confirm the fixes worked.
What is the difference between a security audit and penetration testing?
An audit reviews configuration, policy and known issues. A penetration test actively attempts to exploit your systems like a real attacker would. Many businesses start with an audit to find the obvious gaps, then use penetration testing to see what an attacker could actually do.
Can testing affect my live website?
Testing is planned to avoid disruption. We schedule intrusive tests during maintenance windows and use non-destructive techniques on production by default, and the scope and timing are agreed with you before anything runs.
Can you fix identified vulnerabilities?
Yes. We provide remediation support either directly or alongside your existing dev team, and we can re-test afterwards to confirm each issue is fixed.
Can testing be delivered remotely?
Yes. Most web application and API testing is delivered remotely, which is how we work with international clients, including US businesses. On-site engagements are available for UK clients when they are needed.
How often should I run a security review?
At minimum annually, plus after any major release, migration or security incident. Managed plans include continuous coverage.
Do you help with GDPR?
Yes, we run GDPR-focused reviews covering data flows, consent, retention, processor agreements and breach procedures.
Do you offer incident response?
Managed Security Partner clients get priority incident response. Ad-hoc IR is also available.
Vulnerability scanning vs penetration testing: which does my business need?
Vulnerability scanning is automated: it checks your systems against known weaknesses and is useful to run regularly. Penetration testing adds people who try to exploit and chain weaknesses, which finds problems scanners miss, such as flaws in business logic. Many small businesses run scanning routinely and commission penetration testing before major launches, after big changes or when a customer or regulator asks for it.
How do I choose a security testing provider?
Ask what is in scope, how much of the testing is manual rather than automated, and to see a sample report, so you can judge whether it explains risk clearly for both managers and developers. Check how the provider protects your live systems during testing, how findings are kept confidential, and whether re-testing after fixes is included. A provider that can also help with remediation saves you passing the findings to someone else.
Which providers combine testing and remediation?
Some security consultancies only test and report, while others, including development-led agencies, can also fix what they find. Securovix does both: it tests, reports in plain English and then provides remediation support directly or alongside your developers, with follow-up validation. Independent review of your own team's fixes is good practice too, so ask any provider how it keeps testing objective.
